*Imagine coming down with a chest cold...

*Only to learn it's actually pneumonia...

*Only to learn you really need a lung transplant.

Well, that's kind of what life's been like for me over the last year.

You see, a cascade of serious health crises has left me unable to work... let alone walk -- or even stand up -- without scathing internal pain.

For over a year.

It all began in February of 2018...

That's when I ruptured a prior hernia injury while moving furniture for a friend in need.

Afterwards, I could barely pick up a milk jug without feeling like a saw blade was slicing my body from the inside out.

But no worries, I thought. Some scheduling through the V.A. hospital, a routine operation, and I'd be right back to normal...

Or not.

Anyone familiar with the Veterans' Admin (V.A.) medical system knows ANY procedure there is going to take MONTHS (with no income) to schedule.

So I waited... and rusted some more.

Finally during the pre-op process, an abdominal MRI scan revealed an unpleasant surprise.

An unknown lesion was growing inside my small intestine.

The doctors couldn't tell if it was cancer, but they knew one thing:

It had to come out. It would kill me if left unchecked.

So the hernia repair would have to wait...

Now, this wasn't my first run in with tumors.

I'd had several removed already, everywhere from my sinuses to my thyroid (probably due to Agent Orange exposure I'd gotten back in Vietnam).

But this was the first tumor surgery to require a lengthy hospital stay.

In the end, the good V.A. doctors ended up removing eight inches of my intestine to get the tumor out.

---

Barely six weeks of recovery after surgery #1, I was on the operating table again.

I was finally going to get the hernia repaired that started this ordeal, get back to work, and get on with life...

Or so I thought.

After a three-hour procedure (it was supposed to take under 60 minutes), the surgeon came out and put it in simple terms:

"He is going to be SORE."

Turns out half a year spent waiting to repair the rupture had turned my lower abdomen into a war zone.

Scar tissue was everywhere. They had to cut a 7-inch incision just to get inside and fix everything.

After the surgery, internal bleeding left a giant hematoma inside my gut.

The doctor's orders were to do NOTHING -- total bed rest -- for a minimum of two months.

Great.

More time off work. More time without a paycheck. More pain and suffering.

---

After the 60 days elapsed, I was anxious to start rehabbing. But it wasn't going as planned...

You see, the blood pool inside my lower gut had ebbed quite a bit.

But when I tried to take some "normal" first steps... my leg almost gave out and sent me to the floor.

A sharp pain shot straight through my right hip. So it was back again to the V.A. hospital...

The doc told me the LAST thing I wanted to hear: "You need your hip replaced."

Almost a year of inactivity had eroded my musculature. There was nothing to support my leg but bone on bone.

The cartilage was shredded like fine Swiss through a cheese grater.

Which brings me up to the present:

***Waiting in the long V.A. line for hip replacement surgery;

***Unable to sit without near-constant pain;

***Unable to "walk" (hobble) without crutches;

***Totally unable to work and support myself;

***Mired in debts and I.O.U.s from over a year's worth of $0 income;

***At the end of my rope; with every friend and family member's reserves "tapped out" from helping to cover me through this health crisis that just keeps on "giving.".

Which is why I've been forced to turn to you...

I'm sorry to ask, but can you please help chip in here?

Any amount -- $20, $5, $2 -- will help offset my bills, pay down debt, and tide me over through this final recovery period.

Until I can once again, literally, stand on my own feet again.

And if you understand my predicament but cannot contribute directly to this effort...

PLEASE consider sharing this emergency request for aid with others.

I may be down, but I'm NOT out.

I've got a lot of good left in me to share with the world again.

I just need a little help to get over a truly dreadful year.

Thank you for taking the time to read this urgent request. Your concern means more than this old sailor can express.
